Mrs Margaret Peacock: Mrs Peacock, (nee Allison) had vivid memories of the first day her mother and father had gone out together on their own and left the family on their own. Her father was Sam Allison, the policeman, and they stayed at the Police Station, now, 42 Main Street, Dalry. Margaret and her brother were at school when her brother was brought to her to be taken home, as he had fallen and cut his head. She took him home and decided to get Dr Carmichael to come down as they thought it might need a stitch. “Yes” agreed Dr Carmichael, “I’ll stitch it now”. He started and asked sister Isobel to hold onto Wel till he stitched him. He had only put the needle in for the first time, when there was a bump. Isobel did not like what he was doing and had fainted. She fell to the ground, cutting her head as she did so. So instead of one cut, Dr Carmichael had two to contend with. He had just finished, when in came older sister, Nellie. She had been out on her bike and had fallen off and cut her head; more stitches were needed. Margaret remembers it was a long time before they were left on their own again. |
